Banda Blanca
Honduran band formed in San Pedro Sula, known internationally for its adaptation of Sopa de caracol.

Banda Blanca formed in San Pedro Sula, but the song that brought the Honduran group international attention had travelled from another part of Central America. “Sopa de caracol” was adapted from a Garifuna-language composition by Hernán “Chico” Ramos, a Garifuna musician from Belize.
The band’s 1991 version added Spanish words and reached a much wider audience. Its subject is a dish, and the repeated refrain sits alongside references to preparing the soup. Garifuna words remain in the version that many Spanish-speaking listeners came to know.
The group’s association with punta also points beyond San Pedro Sula to Garifuna communities on the Caribbean coast. Banda Blanca’s record is one popular adaptation within that broader musical history; Ramos’s earlier song belongs in the story too.
